Blaise Zabini

Canon and in aquarel.

Blaise is an extremely handsome, arrogant Slytherin and a close friend of Draco Malfoy. I imagine he has a natural elegance combined with that very aristocratic 'ennui'.

ETA I copied this from the Harry Potter Lexicon for people who might not have read Half-Blood Prince yet:
Described as a "tall black boy with high cheekbones and long, slanting eyes." Blaise shares Draco's prejudice against Muggle-born witches and wizards; Ginny considers Blaise a "poser.

♥ thank you so much, I'm really glad you like him. it took me very long before I was satisfied with the way he looks. There's nothing to give you nerves about a drawing like having canon say he should be beautiful :D

Thank you ^ _ ^ I really enjoy watercolours, they force me to think twice before doing something. With a pencil I can at least erase it when it's wrong.

♥ thank you so much, it really means a lot to me. It took so long to make this, I got more and more nervous while I painted him.

Wonderful! I especially love how you've neither made him a girl, or blond.

The shadows are excellent, though his eyes seem a tiny bit bloodshot. But other than that, amazing! You're so talented with watercolours.

March 12 2006, 18:53:53 UTC 6 years ago

:) thank you, canon Blaise is male and certainly not blond, so I wouldn't dare to do that. You don't like the tiny bit bloodshot eyes? I like it. I have been looking at lots of people while wondering what I would call 'beautiful' and this is how I picture him. I was afraid he might not be the type of 'beautiful guy' you see on tv these days (I don't have tv, so I wouldn't know really) but I couldn't care less.

thanks

it's not that style of drawing, I went to the museum today and I saw something sligtly similar painted by Marlene Dumas, she's very good.

Of those I've seen, I think this is the first painting of Blaise that I've acually liked. Great work!

I adore that you actually made him in canon, even after the HBP people still are like "screw it" and they make him completely wrong.

I love the lip shape the best!

Those eyes are simply breathtaking, so serious and sad and absolutely defensive about it, Slytherin. I love the sharp edges coupled with the blurry ones, it makes for such a satisfying piece. Absolutely beautiful, not only the best Blaise I've ever seen, but one of the best fandom portraits. The blue line, his blue collar -- what a mark. Just awesome.

The very impression is that there is something a bit off about him. It took me half a minute to understand that he has no eyebrows) And his eyes are haunting.
Fantastic work, as per usual:)

Actually, I thought the reddish colour of the eyes was the tipoff that there's something sinistre about him -- the hint of Voldemort about him. I didn't realise they were intended to be bloodshot.

This is a very strinking portrait. The framing and the angle of his face is evocative of his being 'stylish.'

March 13 2006, 03:07:25 UTC 6 years ago

I love the way your shadows look natural, the way you've manipulated watercolours to bring dimensions to his face. I think he is beautiful, and darkly elegant - the splashes of blue at his throat and the slight redness of his eyes just make him all the moreso. You've really exceeded yourself on this one.

March 13 2006, 04:10:00 UTC 6 years ago

Oh this is so lovely. I've seen quite a few post-HBP Blaises, and they've all been more café au lait colored and . . . not exactly Blaise. Almost as if fandom is in denial about him being black, maybe.

The dark, dark ebony skin really suits him here. And that red glint in his eyes is quite chilling.
